Application of Chelating Agents to Enhance Fenton Process in Soil Remediation: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Persistent organic contaminants affecting soil and groundwater pose a significant threat to ecosystems human health. Fenton oxidation is an efficient treatment for removing these pollutants in the aqueous phase at acidic pH. However, in-situ application of this technology remediation (where pHs around neutrality are required) presents important limitations, such as catalyst (iron) availability oxidant (H2O2) stability. The addition chelating agents (CAs), forming complexes with Fe enabling reactions under conditions, so-called chelate-modified process (MF), tries overcome challenges identified conventional Fenton. Despite growing interest technology, there not yet critical review compiling information needed its real application. advantages drawbacks MF must be clarified, recent achievements should shared scientific community. This provides general overview CAs enhance soils polluted most common contaminants, especially deep understanding activation mechanisms influential factors. existing shortcomings research needs have been highlighted. Finally, future perspectives on use recommendations provided.

A review on enhancement techniques of electrokinetic soil remediation

During the last decade, the expansion of urbanization and industrial activities caused serious environmental problems such as soil pollution. Novel technologies are required to remediate soil contamination with toxic contaminants, including heavy metals and organic pollutants. In recent years, there have been increasing attempts to improve soil remediation efficiency. Electrokinetic (EK) is an ...

Application of Electro-Fenton Technology to Remediation of Polluted Effluents by Self-Sustaining Process

The applicability of electro-Fenton technology to remediation of wastewater contaminated by several organic pollutants such as dyes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons has been evaluated using iron-enriched zeolite as heterogeneous catalyst. The electro-Fenton technology is an advanced oxidation process that is efficient for the degradation of organic pollutants, but it suffers from the high o...

The use of chelating agents in the remediation of metal-contaminated soils: a review.

This paper reviews current remediation technologies that use chelating agents for the mobilization and removal of potentially toxic metals from contaminated soils. These processes can be done in situ as enhanced phytoextraction, chelant enhanced electrokinetic extraction and soil flushing, or ex situ as the extraction of soil slurry and soil heap/column leaching. Current proposals on how to tre...

A Mini-Review on Iron Chelating Agents as a Promising Therapeutic Target in Treatment of Leishmaniasis

There is a high prevalence of infections caused by Leishmania parasites and increasing rate of drug resistance. Lack of successful treatment with existing drugs calls for new therapeutic approaches. The main strategy in treatment of leishmaniasis is creating apoptosis and eliminating different forms of the parasite. So far, numerous drugs with specific mechanisms including 14-α-demethylase enzy...
